Fondue Date Night With Or Without Kids

So we wanted to do something fun this year for Valentines for the kids because we are for the first time going to be going out on Valentine’s day.  So this year we decided the day before we would do a fondue dinner with them. Let’s just say it was a huge hit! This will for sure be a new tradition for us. So I put together for you what we did and the best and easiest things. So first off who does not LOVE pretzels and cheese. I mean like get in my mouth its so good am I right??? So what is nice about fondue is that you can just cut up things that you like and dip them in. I will give you a list though of what we like.  I also wanted to have a yummy protein source so I quickly did fajitas as well and dipped that in the cheese!!!!!

Fajitas

Ok, so we make this ALL the time. I make it 2 ways one was you just add everything in the crock pot and let it cook for about 3.5 hours. You need 2 bell pepper 1 onion and 4-5 chicken. All you do is cut up all your pepper and onions then put half of them in the bottom of the crock pot add the chicken salt and pepper the chicken then add the other half of the pepper and onions then sprinkle a packet of fajita session over everything and that’s it! I good it on low for about 3.5 hours and your good to go!

  • Bell Pepper4 Chicken breast
  • 4 Chicken breast
  • 1 onion
  • Fajita Seasoning
  • salt and pepper

Second way! So if you did not plan ahead for a crock pot no big deal! All you need to do is cut up all the peppers and onions add onions to pan on medium to high heat for about 5 mins before you add in the peppers. Then in another pan put your chicken. I like to cut mine up into cubes before I cook it because it cooks faster. Then add salt and pepper to the chicken. Then once almost cook all the way add chicken to the pepper and onion on the medium heat and add a packet of fajitas seasoning to that mix. Let it finish cooking and you are all done. It is SUPPER EASY you guys and so yummy!.

Then I just set this on a plate and you can dip the chicken peppers and onions in the cheese and it was so good!

Ok, let’s talk cheese!!! So we have done a lot of fondue parties and this has been the best recipe we have found yet! I found it on a blog called 10th Kitchen and it was so yummy if you head over to her blog from HERE you can also get how to make homemade pretzel if you are one of those amazing moms who make everything from scratch!! Below is the Fondue recipe.

  • For fondue:
8 ounces sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
    4-6 ounces Gruyere cheese, shredded
    1 tablespoon flour
3/4 cup beer of your choice (I used my beloved Fat Tire amber ale)
2 tablespoons spicy brown mustard (I used jalapeno mustard)
A few drops hot sauce (to taste)
    A few drops Worcestershire sauce
    Fresh ground black pepper

Toss cheeses with flour. Heat beer in a medium saucepan over medium-high heat until hot and bubbling, but not boiling yet. Reduce the heat to low and add cheese in batches, stirring constantly, until all of it is melted and incorporated thoroughly. Remove from heat and stir in the mustard of your choice, hot sauce and Worcestershire sauce.  Sprinkle with fresh ground pepper, if desired. We then put it into our fondue pot for serving and keeping it warm while we all ate.

Things for dipping with cheese!

  • sourdough bread
  • carrots
  • cauliflower
  • fajitas, or any cooked meat.
  • Soft Pretzels (Ok if you are one of those amazing moms who make everything from scratch you are awesome. I am not one of those moms……. So I buy the box of soft pretzels where all you have to do is put them in the over for 10 mins and they are ready to go! You get you it in the refrigerator section of your grocery store.

Now let’s talk Chocolate dip! Ok, there are so many ways to do this one! I sent Adam to the store and he did not get exactly what I wanted but it still worked! So we honestly just added 1 pack of the Hersey’s chocolate bar and a couple squares of gauradelies chocolate with caramel. I do the boiling method. Get a pot with boiling water then on top of that all a glass bowl with the chocolate on it then I added heavy cream and once it started to melt I whisked it until totally smooth then I just put it in a glass dish to serve.

    Things for dipping with chocolate!

So I totally forgot to put out the pretzels and I forgot to add marsh mellows to my list for Adam. We just did the fruit and it was so yummy!

Well, I hope this help you guys! It was so fun and honestly not that hard to do! We love Fondue before we had kids we would do Fondue parties with our friends all the time! So now with the kid’s it makes it even better because they love it so much.  So if you need a last min fun date here you go! Love you all.

    XOXOXO,

    Lauren
